CÁCH CHO HƠN CỦA CHO

Today, Alan Young, BSA district director, visited our BSA troupe 179 Bách Việt at Overfelt Garden to start the fund raising event "2007 Friend of Scouting" of program "2007 A Scout's Life" for Boy Scouts of Santa Clara County that has been serving the Youth of Silicon Valley for over 80 years.

"The gift, whether large or small will make positive impact for Scouting's youth" as Richard M. Brenner, Council President stated on his letter on the brochure. Your generous gifts are tax deductible and could be any of the following levels. You will also receive the following recognition items:

  1. $5000 - Benefactor ("Legacy of Honor" book and special Reception)
  2. $2500 - Sponsor ("Legacy of Honor" book and special Reception)
  3. $1000 - Golden Eagle ("Legacy of Honor" book and special Reception)
  4. $500 - Leadership (Pocketknife)
  5. $250 - One Scout Supporter ("Kind" Mug)
  6. $175 - Leadership Supporter ("Kind" Shoulder Patch)
  7. $____ - Any Gift Amount ("Kind" Wristband)

Please make payment to "SANTA CLARA COUNTY COUNCIL, BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA". To contribute your gift, please contact your leaders Bình Lê, Quý T. Biện or Tony Mai for your recognition items. Parents are encouraged to motivate our children the spirit of gift giving and understanding of the balance of gift giving and receiving.

Our Vietnamese culture taught us "CÁCH CHO HƠN CỦA CHO" ("The giving manner is more important than the value of the gift"). Even with 25 cents or 1 dollar of gift from our children boyscout cubs, and "chim non" to any amount from us, we all can make a difference and positive impact to our children scout's life.

Here is the growing list of "2007 Friends of Scouting".

Happy GIVING!

HOW TO LEARN MORSE CODE IN 15 MINUTES

We had a challenge to learn the Morse code within an hour from our Dad. He gave us a hint to use a method called mnemonic code where we used acronyms to help us more easily memorizing the tree. We can reconstruct the chart easily with out memorizing the whole thing.

The phrase we came up with is: “Eating IS Healthy 4 5-year olds.” This is a phrase that helped us to memorize the most outer branch of “DIT”. Anyone can create his/her own phrases if it helps you the Morse code learning easier and with fun. It took us about two hours to memorize the all alphabets by picturing the tree in our minds to translate a letter. We made up catchy phrases to help us to memorize the most basic letters such as T or E.

We then learned the inner parts of the Morse Code Tree where it branches off. By doing this, we quickly memorized the tree to help us translate any letter in the alphabet. Each time we practiced memorizing the Morse code, it required less and less effort. The easiest and quickly way to learn Morse code is a combination of using the mnemonic code and memorizing the whole tree.

We learned and memorize within 1 hour, and thought it would be cool to share it to all my crew members.

TheMorse Code Tree that downloaded from website www.learnmorsecode.com.

  1. Place your pencil where it says START and listen to morse code.
  2. Move down and to the right every time you hear a DIT (a dot).
  3. Move down and to the left every time you hear a DAH (a dash).
Here's an example: You hear DAH DIT DIT which is a dash then dot then dot.
  4. You start at START and hear a DAH then move down and left to the T and then you hear a DIT so you move down and RIGHT to the N and then you hear another DIT so you move DOWN and RIGHT again and land on the D
  5. You then write down the letter D on your code copy paper and jump back to START waiting for your next letter.
  6. The key to learning the code is hearing it and comprehending it while you hear it.

Key for Morse code alphabet and numbers.

Here is a website that tests your skill in interpreting Morse code. There is one slow test and one normal speed test. Here is the link to the website: www.learnmorsecode.com

FYI: "Pages counter"

The counter appears on the right lower corner indicates the number of pages were read up-to-date, not the number of the visits. For example, within your session at the blogsite, if your read 10 postings, then the counter will increment additional 10 counts.
